The Promise

Walking that difficult road, we knew we couldn’t be the only ones feeling overwhelmed. We realized that while Sam was getting what he needed, many families were still searching for a community that understood their unique journey.

“We knew one day we wanted to create a program to help families who have children with developmental disabilities—to bring them hope, support, and a place to celebrate every single victory.”

In 2006, Sam decided to make his entrance on his own terms. Arriving eight weeks earlier than planned and weighing only 2.5 pounds, he was a tiny fighter from the very first breath. But it was on day five that our world changed forever.

The doctors sat us down and shared that our little guy was born with “a little something extra.” Sam had Down Syndrome. In that moment, we were thrust into a brand new reality—one where we had to quickly transition from traditional parenting to becoming fierce advocates and navigators of a complex medical and developmental world.

Learning to Advocate

We were determined to ensure Sam would be “all he could be.” This wasn’t just a hope; it was a mission. It meant endless hours learning about developmental disabilities and discovering how to support him through early—and lifelong—therapies. It wasn’t always easy, and the path wasn’t always clear, but the progress we saw in Sam was our fuel.

The Next Chapter

In 2016, we took the leap and launched our non-profit, the **Texas Institute of Developmental Pediatrics**. We started small, with our “Little Stars” program serving just **four courageous families**.
